YZY PODS WERE ARRIVED!

YZY PODS

Kanye West's brand "Yeezy" recently made headlines with the news that Gosha Rubchinskiy had been appointed as its Design Manager. One of the items released shortly after this announcement was the "YZY PODS," a high-sock-like boot.

The release date was 15th December of the previous year. After consulting with friends, I made the purchase online on the night of 29th December —sort of a year-end treat for myself.

The cost at that time was $200, which is about 28,800yen.

A friend who ordered the LONG T received it exactly one month later, on 29th January.

I was just waiting for the "YZY PODS" to arrive.

Then, on 12th February, Super Bowl Day, an incident occurred. ( I know you know it)

The Super Bowl, a major event watched by 110 million people in the U.S., has enormous advertising costs—reports suggest that a 30-second commercial spot can cost $7 million (about 1 billion yen). Kanye West bought a spot and aired a commercial featuring nothing more than a simple selfie video of himself in the backseat of a car, promoting his online store "YEEZY.COM" and the shoes.

However!!!

Shortly after, the entire online store’s inventory was marked down by 90%. The "YZY PODS," which I had ordered for $200, were now priced at just $20—around 3,000yen with the current exchange rate. Naturally, I felt pretty bummed out about this significant markdown, especially since I hadn't received them yet. I went to bed dreaming about what I could have bought with that 25,000yen.

It seems I wasn’t alone in feeling disappointed. The next day, on 13th February, Kanye himself posted a screenshot on Instagram, announcing that he would refund the difference to everyone who had pre-ordered (paraphrased).

Indeed, the Super Bowl commercial had an enormous impact, with sales skyrocketing to $19 million (about 3 billion yen) in just one day.

On the same day, I quickly emailed customer service and received an automatic response stating that due to an overwhelming number of emails, they were handling each one individually and requested patience (paraphrased).

About a month later, on 14th March, I received a response from customer service and the refund for the difference was promptly issued.

Finally, after about 18 weeks from my order at the end of last year, the boots arrived safely on 6th May.

YZY PODS BAG

A nylon bag with a size 2 sticker labeled ❷ stuck on it. So simple.

YZY PODS

Inside the bag were the "YZY PODS," folded in half with the left and right sides stacked on top of each other.

I usually wear size 8(US)/26cm sneakers, which are slightly large, so I ordered size 2 without thinking much. They turned out to be too big.

BACK SIDE OF YZY PODS

Measuring from the toe to the heel of the sole, it’s about 28cm.

When worn directly without socks, they fit perfectly with a feel similar to a stretchy sports support or compression socks. The comfort is excellent. Since I’m not a fan of tight fits, this size might actually be just right for me.

FIT CHECK OF YZY PODS

Personally, they fit perfectly up to the knee-high sock length, and even though they don’t seem like footwear meant for running around, they don’t slip or shift, so the size didn’t bother me much.

However, when I look down and see the unfamiliar size, it’s clear that both of my feet do look quite large visually.

HANGING YZY PODS

The length of the boot, when measured while not being worn, is about 30 cm.

After a long 18-week journey to reach me, even though they are large, I plan to wear them only on days when it’s not rainy and when there aren’t too many people around.

It was a thrilling online shopping experience for $20 plus shipping (about 10,000yen), and in the end, I got a new pair of footwear, so it’s all good.

Currently, all items are still being sold on the online store for 3,200yen.
